ANZAC DAY 2019 | Glen Waverley | 14 APR & 25 APR 2019

ANZAC DAY 2019

Anzac Day is a time for the community to come together to remember and recognise the service and sacrifice of members of the Australian Defence Force. Originally a commemoration of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, Anzac Day is a public expression of gratitude and reflection resonates to the present day.

People are encouraged to pay their respects for all Australians who served and died in war and operational service. These ceremonies are organised by local Returned Services League (RSL) branches:

Glen Waverley

Sunday 14 April at 10.15am: Glen Waverley Cenotaph, Kingsway (behind Glen Waverley Library) preceded by a short march at 10am from the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch car park (off Glendale Street).

Veterans, current and former service personnel, accompanied by community leaders, the Hawthorn City Pipe Band and led by Bernie Dingle from the Light Horse and Artillery Museum will march from the Waverley RSL to the Glen Waverley Cenotaph for a community service. All members of the community are invited to attend. Following the Service all attendees are invited to return (many march the return trip) to the RSL for refreshments.

Thursday 25 April at 6am: The Cenotaph, Springvale Road (adjacent to Central Reserve), Glen Waverley Dawn Service followed by a traditional Gunfire Breakfast served at the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch.
